William Murphy, 77, of Lake Carmel, NY passed away at Putnam Hospital, surrounded by his family, on September 18, 2012. Mr. Murphy was born on December 11, 1934 to Thomas and Ita (Lane) Murphy in New York City. He graduated from Iona College in 1956. William proudly served his Country with the United States Marines from 1956 – 1958. On October 11, 1958 he married Catherine McKeown in the Bronx, NY. Before he retired, he worked as a Credit Analysis, for the Dunn & Brad Street Corp., in NYC. In addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, William was very active in his community; he was the Former Chief of the Lake Carmel Fire Department and was an active member of the Fire Chief Association. He is survived by his devoted wife Catherine, his four loving children; Thomas Murphy, William Murphy, Jr., Terri-Ann Kelleher and Aileen Napolitano, his sister Ann Healy and ten adoring grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving son James and his brother Thomas. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Friday September 21, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc. (Carmel, NY ). A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Church, 12 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, NY. Interment will be private.
